What does a cam belt or timing belt do?
The cam belt synchronizes the crankshaft and the camshaft so that the engine’s valves move in time with the cylinders – hence it’s name other name, the timing belt. Depending on the engine, it can also prevent the engine piston from striking the valves.
If your cam belt breaks it can cause costly and irreparable damage to the rest of your engine, which is often more expensive than the cam belt replacement.
When should I change my timing belt or cam belt?
For each vehicle there are manufacturer advised intervals (usually in miles or years) which can be found in the vehicle’s service book. Cam belts will often show no signs of wear, so it’s important to follow these recommended intervals. Most manufactures recommend between every 40,000 to 60,000 miles, but if you’re not sure of the suggested intervals we can help you find out.
How much does a cam belt replacement cost?
