Car Tyres

Yateley MOT can replace your tyres in under an hour. We stock a wide range of tyres including Pace and Nankang, and regularly supply brands to customers including Pirelli, Dunlop, Michelin, Goodyear and Continental.

How often should I replace my tyres?

How often you replace your tyres will depend on their lifespan and depth of tread. You should check your tyre tread at least once a month, as this can change quickly.

What is the minimum legal tyre tread limit?

The minimum legal limit in the UK for the tyre tread depth is 1.6mm. Most tyre manufacturers recommend you replace a tyre when it reaches 3mm or below.

Why should I replace my tyres?

Once your vehicle’s tyre tread reaches 3mm or below, your stopping distance dramatically increases, which can be dangerous when you’re on the road. Tyres that reach the illegal limit of 1.6mm or below will carry a fine of £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre, so having your vehicle serviced on a regular basis will help ensure road safety as well as avoid points and fines.

How to check tyre tread

TyreSafe recommends the 20p test to check your tyre tread:

  1. Place a 20p coin into the main tread grooves of your tyre
  2. Check to see if the outer band of the 20p coin is obscured
  3. If it is not obscured, your tread is above the legal limit
